Privacy

Your key. Your files. Your call.

Everything you put in Vast Cloud is encrypted on your Mac with a key only you hold. We can't see your files or their names. When Vast uses AI to understand a file, it sends only what's needed. We don't store it, and nothing is used for training.

  • Encrypted on your Mac. AES-256, before anything is uploaded.
  • A recovery key you print. We can't reset it. That's the point.
  • Never used for training. Not your files, not your questions. Not by us, not by our AI provider.
  • Just enough, never kept by us. A text snippet or small preview, sent once and not stored on our servers. We don't log it.

Questions, answered.

Will Vast move or delete files without asking?

Never. Every tidy-up and cleanup starts as a plan you can review, and nothing happens until you approve it. Anything Vast does can be undone with one click from Activity. If you turn on auto-tidy for Downloads, those moves show up in Activity too, each with its own undo.

Do I have to upload my files?

No. Vast understands and organizes files right where they are, on your Mac. Vast Cloud is optional, for things you want off your disk without deleting them.

Can you see my files? What does the AI see?

Files in Vast Cloud are encrypted on your Mac with a key only you have, so we can't read them or their names. To understand a file, Vast sends only the text it needs (or a small preview) through our server to the AI model (Google Gemini, paid tier). We don't store or log it, and it's never used to train AI.

How is this different from Spotlight?

Spotlight is great at names and keywords. Vast understands meaning: it knows IMG_4821.HEIC is your passport and scan_0042.pdf is your lease. And Spotlight doesn't tidy your Desktop or tell you which 16.8 GB of video you'll never watch again.

Is Vast a Mac cleaner?

It frees up space like one, minus the scare tactics. Vast shows why each file can go (duplicate, used installer, not opened in a year), lets you offload instead of delete, and keeps an undo for everything. It's also a search engine, an organizer and an assistant for your files.

What happens when I use up my free AI analyses?

Nothing stops working. Search by name and content, rule-based tidying and the free-space tools stay free. Vast spends your 300 monthly AI analyses on the files you've used or changed most recently; the rest wait for next month's allowance, or for an upgrade.

Does it work with iCloud Drive?

Yes, carefully. Vast leaves iCloud-only files alone and warns you when deleting something would remove it from all your devices.

Which Macs does it support?

Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.

When can I try it?

What if I lose my recovery key?

If you lose every Mac and your recovery key, nobody can decrypt your cloud files. Not you, not us. That's why we ask you to print it.
